Fishing on foot on the Breton Riviera

Discover the foreshore

At low tide, the coastline reveals a veritable playground for lovers of fishing on foot. Clams, periwinkles, curlers… the foreshore abounds with treasures to be observed and harvested with respect. But beware: responsible fishing is essential to preserve this fragile ecosystem and ensure its long-term survival!

Good practice for sustainable fishing

#1 Respect the minimum sizes

Each species has its own regulated catch size. To avoid catching fish that are too young, take a ruler with you and check the local regulations before setting off.

#2 Do not turn the stones over (or put them back)

Rocks and seaweed are home to precious wildlife. To avoid upsetting this balance, avoid moving them or replace them exactly as you found them.

#3 Take only what you consume

It’s tempting to fill up your basket, but if you want to fish sensibly, limit your harvest to what you will consume during the day.

#4 Check the weather and tide times

A threatening sky or a rising tide can quickly turn an outing into a dangerous situation. Before setting off, check the weather forecast and tide times.

#5 The sea is rising fast!

Always keep an eye on the water and look out for landmarks on the shore so you don’t end up alone. Avoid venturing out alone, and carry a charged telephone in case of emergency.

#6 Good to know: local regulations

Some areas are protected, and fishing quotas may apply. Check with your tourist office or local authorities before you leave.
