Located around ten kilometres from Quimper and a few kilometres from Bénodet, the commune of Gouesnac’h enjoys a privileged environmental setting where water and vegetation are in perfect harmony.

Between tradition and modernity

The Odet, ‘one of the most beautiful rivers in France’, winds its way through the commune for 14 km, from the cove of Saint-Cadou to Pors Guen, where the gates to the Atlantic open. As well as taking part in a wide range of water sports, you can enjoy the peaceful charm of this unspoilt natural setting by stopping off at Pors-Guen, Pors-Garo, Pors-Keraign or Pors-Meillou.

Remarkable sites de Gouesnac'h

  • Chapelle Saint-Cadou (1578 ): listed as a historic monument on 27 March 1922. Situated in a very rural setting, this Latin cross-shaped chapel has a slightly protruding chevet. This vast building, with its Gothic bell tower, overlooks an open area with an oratory, a calvary and a fountain. The pardon, which takes place on the first Sunday in August, is dedicated to wrestlers: Saint-Cadou is traditionally their patron saint.
  • Pors-Meillou: this is a quiet little port with a few pleasure boats. It’s also a peaceful, uninhabited spot where the light, water and vegetation are in perfect harmony.
  • The village church of Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul (1775): The bell tower as it appears today was rebuilt in 1740 as it was in danger of collapsing. Inside, the pillars and arcades date from the 18th century. There is also a Gallo-Roman ‘foculus’ (former pagan altar), now used as a font.
